The Community Refugee & Immigration Services, CRIS, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and the City of Upper Arlington will host the 2nd Annual Culture & Artisans’ Fair on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (2151 Dorset Road, Upper Arlington) between 10 AM and 3 PM.
The 2nd annual Culture & Artisans’ Fair celebrates handmade crafts, music, and food worldwide, and focusing on diversity and creativity. It is also an excellent opportunity for people to see and appreciate the talents and contributions of refugees and immigrants in the local community.
CRIS is a non-profit that supports immigrants and refugees in Central Ohio. They offer programs such as cultural orientation, job training, and English language classes to help families settle in the United States. Program beneficiaries have shared their experiences of successfully finding employment, receiving legal assistance, and feeling welcomed and supported in their new community.
The event is expected to provide a platform for refugees and immigrants to showcase their talents and skills while sharing their culture and traditions with the broader community.
“There’s something for everyone, including jewelry, clothing, home decor, and artwork. But the fair isn’t just about shopping; it also features live music and performances from various cultural groups, making the atmosphere vibrant,” said CRIS on its website.
“The fair supports artists from local and international communities and raises awareness and support for refugees and immigrants. All proceeds from the event will go towards programs and services provided by Community Refugee & Immigration Services, which helps refugees and immigrants rebuild their lives in Central Ohio.”
It added that “the fair isn’t just about shopping and entertainment; it’s also an excellent opportunity to taste and learn about different cuisines worldwide. Food vendors will serve delicious dishes from various cultures, allowing attendees to expand their taste buds and try something new.”
