The 20th-ranked Colorado Buffaloes Women’s Basketball team pulled off a huge upset Monday night in Las Vegas, defeating the defending 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Champions, the No. 1 LSU’s Tigers, by a score of 92-78. It was LSU’s season opener and part of the Hall of Fame series.
The Buffaloes performed a dominant performance, with three players scoring in double digits and the team shooting an impressive 53.2% from the field. Colorado also took advantage of LSU’s 19 turnovers, scoring a handful of points from the errors. The former Louisville star, Hailey Van Lith, who transferred to LSU during the off-season, finished with fourteen points, whereas the star of the 2023 March Madness, Angel Reese, scored 15 points for the losing team.
Meanwhile, in the same Hall of Fame series, the 7th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes Women’s Basketball team fell to the 21st-ranked USC Trojans by a score of 83-74. The Buckeyes led in the first quarter but failed to capitalize on that lead in the 2nd quarter, scoring just ten points while allowing USC to drop 31 points on them.
The start of the third quarter was a different story where OSU came out swinging, outscoring USC 30-10 to keep the game close. However, in the last quarter, they gave up 27 points while only scoring 16, which was the ball game. Ohio State struggled to contain freshman sensation USC’s forwards, Juju Watkins, who finished with 32 points.
The Colorado Buffaloes Women’s Basketball team proved they are a force to be reckoned with, taking down the defending champions in a dominant performance. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Buckeyes Women’s Basketball team must figure out how to close out games to make a deep run in the regular season.
