Robert L. Perry, a 7th-degree black belt in American freestyle karate, is the founder and head instructor of Team Perry American Karate in Reynoldsburg. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Perry brought decades of martial arts experience to Central Ohio when he relocated to Columbus in 2011, with a clear mission: to shape confident, disciplined, and respectful young people through martial arts.

At Team Perry American Karate, Perry teaches children ages 5 and up, blending physical training with life skills. His program emphasizes respect for others, personal responsibility, focus, and goal setting, while also encouraging students to excel academically.
Parents and community members consistently praise his ability to connect with youth, guiding them toward positive choices both inside and outside the dojo. Perry’s impact reaches well beyond martial arts instruction. He is widely recognized throughout Reynoldsburg for his community leadership and mentorship, serving families with integrity and consistency.
In 2025, his dedication was formally honored when he received the George Stebout Juneteenth Legacy Award during the 60th Anniversary of the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival, a milestone celebration for the city. That recognition reflects what the community already knows: Robert L. Perry is not just teaching karate—he is building character, confidence, and community pride. Through Team Perry American Karate, he continues to leave a legacy, empowering the next generation to stand strong, respect others, and strive for excellence in school and in life
