On Saturday, October 21, 2023, local community members had the opportunity to attend a workshop at the Liberians in Columbus Incorporated, LICI Center on the east side of Columbus, Ohio on how to gain financial freedom.
The Executive Director of Liberians Living in Columbus, Alphy Tongor, shared his knowledge about establishing a business in Ohio, and a financial expert, Scott Heckman, spoke about financial freedom planning.
Mr. Tongor explained the importance of a good business plan and networking. He also provided valuable tips on how to find resources and support when starting a business in Ohio.
Also, Mr. Heckman spoke about the importance of understanding finances and budgeting to gain financial freedom. He shared his expertise on how to make intelligent investments and how to manage debt. Both hosts allowed attendees to ask questions and seek advice on how to start and manage a business.
Liberians in Columbus Incorporated (LICI is a community-based organization that seeks to support and empower Liberian immigrants and refugees in the greater Columbus area. LICI provides resources to help Liberians find employment, legal services, and access to health care and other social services. The Center also hosts various events and activities throughout the year to promote cultural pride and foster community among Liberians living in Columbus.
They are also committed to helping other underserved and low-income individuals in Central Ohio. In addition to providing assistance with job placement, educational opportunities, and housing assistance. The Center also hosts a monthly food drive in partnership with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. The food drive is held on a Saturday and open to multiple communities in the area.
