The unity of Bhutanese new Americans will be on full display at the 2nd Dashain-Diwali festival happening on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with more than 12,000 expected attendees. The festival is free and will take place at the Civic Park, 6800 Daugherty Dr., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.
A collaboration of the City of Reynoldsburg and local community businesses, Council member Bhuwan Pyakurel says, “This festival serves as a testament of collaborative community and their power when it comes to culture preservation.
“This event shows us that the Bhutanese Americans can work in unity.”
The city of Reynoldsburg is co-sponsoring the event, and all other funds are raised from local sponsors, mainly Bhutanese American businesses.
Dashain is an annual Hindu holiday that unites family and community in a display of resilience, triumph, and togetherness. Diwali, the holiday of light, celebrates the victory of light over darkness.
The festival will feature cultural performances, traditional food, activities for kids, vendors, and fireworks.
The festival will feature local and national artists.
Shyam Gautam, one of the organizers of the event, hopes the event will not only bring community members together but also display the unity of Bhutanese Americans to a broader population. Central Ohio has the largest Bhutanese population outside of Bhutan.
