Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted attended the closing of the 2023 Ohio Asphalt Expo, sponsored by Flexible Pavements of Ohio, at the Hilton Hotel at Polaris in Columbus, Ohio, on March 29.
The association, founded in 1962, has more than 100 members. According to the organization’s website, it represents the interests of the asphalt paving industry in local, state, federal, and local governments, and business organizations. In addition, it provides and supports active educational resources designed to improve and advance asphalt construction quality.
Per https://www.ibisworld.com, several industry experts have estimated that asphalt manufacturing will generate $31.3 billion in revenue in 2023 – the fastest growth of any manufacturing sector in the United States.
Due to the importance of ensuring that Ohio Roads are in the hands of the best experts, Lieutenant Governor Husted’s support and appearance were significant.
In attendance were some of the largest asphalt companies in Ohio that provide paving services for highways, roads, airport runways, and commercial facilities throughout the country.
The two-day event had a wide range of the newest asphalt equipment outside the hotel parking lot. Experts described some of its functionality and how it will benefit the asphalt industry in the future. Also, experts held seminars discussing various topics and provided industry best practices.
Some workshops at this year’s Expo included milling for smoothness, analyzing warm mix asphalt, discovering the latest innovations in asphalt materials and testing, and paving for quality.
The event attracted asphalt contractors, aggregate producers, engineering consultants, government officials, additive suppliers, asphalt binder and equipment manufacturers suppliers.
Asphalt Paving Awards were also presented to experts and companies that contributed significantly to the success of the top construction projects in 2022.
Flexible Pavements’ next event will be their Asphalt Quality Control Technical Training at Ohio University Lancaster on April 4-6, 2023.
