With the Columbus Crew 2 leading the standing in the central division entering into their playoff push, they had to face the New England Revolution. In the first period the Crew jumped out a quick 2-0 lead with goals coming from Michael Vang in the 15th minute and in the 30th.
Vang being the standout player in the game on Sunday is one of the leaders of this team, though still looking to find that next gear that the coaching staff and players feel that he can reach. Coming off a lower leg injury earlier in the season it’s the comfort and the trust Vang has to show to take that next step.
Tempo of the game was in the Crew’s favor, fast pace and fast-moving offense that they have was too powerful for the Revolution even though they were more physical in the match. New England was able to give a tiny bit of hope to the club with a goal coming in the 41st minute by Marcos Dias but it was a citron call for the Revolution after an own goal by Michael DeShields in the 44th and a goal from Coleman Gannon off the assist from Jake Morris in the 74th minute.
Hearing from the crew faithful and sources around the team the sky is the limit for this club, having a few players being able to move up from crew 2 and to the major and having the opportunity to come back down and work and getting more playing time.
The experience level and pose is unmatched as the crew are the dark horse when it comes to this playoff push this Season whether it be the major leaguers or the second team guys. Abdirizak Mohamed and Sean Zawadzki are the names to know in coming years.
During the post-game interview both coach Laurent Courtois and Sean Zawadzki both shared the same sentiments when it came to the communication on the field. It was lacking but with all the different moving components and new faces in new place you will have that sometime.
Coach Courtois and Zawadzki were both adamant in saying that was not an excuse, too much talent is on this roster to let that fly by. The culture within the club and locker room is great but chemistry was the key word that Zawadzki spoke about, just having that ability to lock in with each on and off the field is that next thing to the crew over the top.
