2022 Columbus Arts Festival to Welcome More Than 200 Local and National Artists

Posted by: New Americans Magazine , March 30, 2022

Notable local and national artists representing 34 states and the province of Ontario will exhibit and sell their work at the 2022 Columbus Arts Festival, produced by the Greater Columbus Arts Council (Arts Council) and presented by the American Electric Power Foundation, June 10-12 on Columbus’ downtown riverfront.

“After two years off because of the pandemic, we’re very excited to welcome our slate of exhibiting artists from all over the country,” said Sean Kessler, Arts Festival director. “Once again, we’re impressed by the exceptional quality of their work, and I think Festival goers will be delighted to see the many returning artists and as well as plenty of new faces.”

Eleven of the 2019 award-winning artists are returning this year: Larry Allen of Leeds, AL (ceramics); Diane Binder of Rockbridge, OH (2D mixed media, 43149); James Carter of Southbury, CT (painting); Jennifer Ivory of Corvalis, OR (sculpture); Sang Kim of Baldwinville, MA (painting); Robin Lauersdorf of Monona, WI (drawing); Teresa Merriman of Tempe, AZ (3D mixed media); Kendra Runnelsof Martinez, GA (2D mixed media); Harry Welsch and Kimberley Wellman of Lutz, FL (ceramics); and Clinton Wood of Cincinnati, OH (painting, 45238).

More than 40 artists from the state of Ohio will participate in 2022. In addition to Binder, central Ohio artists include: Emily Cline of Columbus (ceramics, 43224); Zhen Zhong Duan of Dublin (painting, 43017); Amy Haggard of Columbus (painting, 43229); Britt Hallowell of Grove City (painting, 43123); Jason Johnston of Columbus (sculpture, 43202); Diana Juratovac of Columbus (glass, 43214); Brigit Kowalczyk of Delaware (leather, 43015); Jeff Kuhlman of Columbus (photography & digital photography, 43216); Benjamin Lamb of Columbus (3D mixed media, 43224); Megs LeVesseur of Columbus (ceramics, 43206); Kim and Katherine McClelland of Columbus (2D mixed media, 43206); Kate Morgan of Columbus (2D mixed media, 43224); Kaname Tadaka of Upper Arlington (cermaics, 43221); Matt Tisdaleof Westerville (painting, 43081); and Jerry Yangof Dublin (fiber, 43017).

In addition to the established artists who exhibit, the Columbus Arts Festival features artists who were selected by the jury panel to participate in the Emerging Artist program. Created in 2011, the Emerging Artist program is for artists who have limited or no experience exhibiting at national festivals. In order to be eligible, artists must be residents of Franklin or the surrounding counties: Franklin, Union, Delaware, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Fayette and Madison. In addition to a lower booth fee, Emerging Artists participate in two artist bootcamps to learn about booth layout, décor, pricing and best selling practices.

Twelve central Ohio artists were invited to take part in the Emerging Artist program this year: Carmen Allen of Columbus (ceramics, 43207); Alysha and Dylan Auerbach of Dublin (ceramics, 43016); Chelsea Bernardo of Columbus (2D mixed media, 43212); Lindsay Boyd of Lewis Center (3D mixed media, 43035); Austin Brown of Columbus (drawing and printmaking, 43206); Scott Caputo of Columbus (ceramics, 43224); Jason Glaser of Columbus (metal, non-sculptural, 43213); Elijah Kleman of Columbus (painting, 43213); Evangelia Philippidis of Grove City (drawing, 43123); Maegan Shaner of Marysville (fiber, 43040); Chris Tennant of Columbus (painting, 43222); and Zach Vincent of Columbus (leather, 43214).

Nearly 200 artists, including the Emerging Artists, were selected from almost 600 applicants through a blind jury process. To apply, artists submitted digital images of their artwork and booth set-up through ZAPPlication™. A jury of art experts reviewed the entries, identified only by number, and selected the work based on merit and quality, as well as booth presentation.

Festival Hours: Friday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; and Sunday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Please note: on Friday and Saturday artist booths close at 9 p.m.; artists have the option to stay open later.)
