City of Columbus, Ohio Mayor Andrew J. Ginther has assured immigrants and residents that the city remained a safe and welcoming to everyone, just as Springfield, Ohio continued to attract immigration headlines.
“We want Columbus to continue to be a welcoming safe place for people from all walks of life, no matter who they are, their worship, and their background. For immigrants that are here, the City of Columbus is going to do everything in our power to make sure that everyone in our community feels safe,” said Mayor Andrew Ginther.
“We will continue to attract the best, and the brightest in the State, the country and the world. Everybody has a place in Columbus’ future. It is important to be an example to the rest of the country.
“We want everybody in this community to do their part, to contribute to this community, to be good neighbors, to be good leaders and invest in our community, and in our neighborhoods throughout the city. We believe everybody has a place in Columbus.”
On the recent $6.6 million grant from the federal government to provide shelter for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, Mayor Ginther said, “we are very excited to have the federal government grant. We think the federal government needs to continue to step up and support these cities that are dealing with these issues.”
“It also underscores the need for comprehensive immigration reform, to have a better system in place so that the federal government can work with local communities when there are groups, either refugees or immigrants that are coming to certain communities.”
According to Mayor Ginther, “the Federal government needs to step up to help these communities, whether immigrants in Springfield or here in Columbus.
