The City of Columbus, Ohio has announced scholarship guarantee that will cover tuition, fees, and up to $500/semester in other expenses at the Columbus State Community College for Columbus City Schools class of 2022, 2023, and 2024 in its Columbus Promise program.
The Columbus Promise is a new program for Columbus City Schools graduates that offers special services and support to help students succeed and get good jobs.
- Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA),
- Apply to Columbus State Community College,
- Complete a Columbus Promise application, and
- Graduate from high school.
The program website said that a candidate will be accepted at the completion of “these steps.”
The round one deadline to apply is April 15, 2022.
Once in college, students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA each semester, take nine credit hours per term, and engage with their assigned Promise Coach to remain eligible.
Promise Coaches can help connect students with paid part-time jobs and internships while they are in college.
Currently, the program will cover six semesters for each student, and is open to the Columbus City Schools class of 2022, 2023, and 2024.
The Columbus Promise is a joint initiative of the City of Columbus, Columbus City Schools, I Know I Can, and Columbus State Community College, united around the goal of helping more Columbus students get to and through college and into good-paying jobs.
It is based on a national model used in other cities and states. The long-term vision is to expand this program to cover more students in more neighborhoods and school districts, partner with more post-secondary destinations, and incorporate more financial and career support in the years to come.
The financial resources for the Columbus Promise are housed at the Columbus Foundation with the support of the Columbus Partnership and member companies.
