Columbus City Council Partners Columbus Schools Board on Community School Model

Columbus, OH – Columbus City Council President Shannon G. Hardin and President Pro Tem Rob Dorans, joined Columbus City Schools Board President Dr. Antoinette Miranda and Vice President Sarah Ingles to announce a joint leadership committee formalizing collaboration and partnership, tagged Community Campus School Model.

The program, with Northland High School serving as a pilot for it, represents the commitment of leadership of both institutions to work together on shared priorities that strengthen the schools and the community at large.

“As Columbus City Schools face stark financial challenges and as the City of Columbus grows and changes, the committee represents the commitment of leadership of both institutions to work together on shared priorities that strengthen the schools and the community at large,” said Council President Shannon G. Hardin.

“This committee of the City Council and the school board can come together regularly, align priorities and make smarter more coordinated decisions on behalf of our kids, families, and neighbors around our school for economic development.”

Council President Pro Tem Rob Dorans said, “Council leaders will discuss ways to fund a pilot program at Northland High School championed by the Columbus Education Association that exemplifies this spirit of partnership.”

“Funding this program is important now more than ever because we live in an environment, where the state government is doing everything against funding public schools.”

Columbus City School Board President Dr. Antoinette Miranda said that “school issues are not isolated cases. They are shared responsibilities because the truth is our schools do not operate in a vacuum. They are deeply connected to the health of our neighborhood.”

“This announcement of the creation of a joint committee between Columbus City Schools and Columbus City Council is important because new challenges require new solutions and more importantly, they require us stepping up. I am confident that we can build a stronger more sustainable path forward for our schools, city and most importantly for our children.”
