New Americans Reporter Transfers to The Ohio State University

 

New Americans magazine’s reporter Danlette G. Washington has been accepted to The Ohio State University as a transfer student, where she will continue her academic journey.

Washington, whose prolific writing in the magazine has led in most days started her journalism training at the MediaAid Foundation (Peter Quaqua School of Journalism) in Liberia, where she developed her reporting skills, and participated in outreach efforts to recruit aspiring high school student journalists.

Through the program, she secured an internship with the New Democrat newspaper, Liberia which launched her professional journalism career in 2015.

After relocating to the United States, Washington continued to expand her media education at Ohio Media School, where she earned a Diploma in Radio and Television Broadcasting and later a second diploma with an emphasis in Filmmaking. She further advanced her studies by earning an Associate of Applied Science degree after successfully completing the institution’s associate degree program.

Following her graduation from Ohio Media School, Washington served as an Instructor Assistant, helping support students and instructors in hands-on broadcast and media production training.

Professionally, Washington has spent the past decade working in journalism/ media and community service. She began her career in Liberia at the New Democrat newspaper, where she reported on health, human rights, and post-war social issues.

Since relocating to the United States in 2017, she has continued her work in broadcasting and community journalism, serving as a reporter, producer, and host.

She currently hosts and executive produces Beyond the Headlines on Apex 1 Radio and reports for the New Americans Magazine.

Washington said her admission to Ohio State University represents another milestone in her commitment to lifelong learning, professional growth, and service through media and communications. She is expected to begin classes at Ohio State University in Autumn 2026.
