David Tolani Foundation Delivers Christmas Joy with 2025 Annual Sneakers Giveaway at Tree of Life Christian Schools

Thirty-three exceptional students from Tree of Life Christian Schools were celebrated on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, as the David Tolani Foundation (DTF) hosted its Annual Christmas Sneakers Giveaway.

These outstanding children, recognized for their exemplary character, academic diligence, and passion for basketball, each received a brand-new pair of premium basketball shoes donated by elite athletes including LeBron James, Steph Curry, and others.

The event, held at Tree of Life, 4099 Karl Road, Columbus, opened at 9:30 AM, with the formal program commencing at 10:00 AM. Families, supporters, and community members gathered to honor the young recipients and share in a spirit of generosity and celebration.

DTF was founded in remembrance of David Tolani, an ardent lover of basketball, who passed away at age six in 2016. His life and legacy continue to inspire the Foundation’s work, guided by its mission and vision, a poignant reminder that life is not how long, but how well.

The foundation, which as noted on its website davidtolanifoundation.org, is working with about 65 volunteers, has reached over 300 children and given out sneakers over the years as its mission as follows:

Mission: To turn loss into a legacy of strength by leading children to know the love of Christ, to build strong godly character, and to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

Vision: To create a future where every child across the globe reaches their highest potential through a pathway shaped by the love of Christ—a beacon of light guiding them toward lives rich with purpose and joy.

Feyi Tolani

At the event, Mrs. Feyi Tolani, David’s mother, addressed the recipients with a heartfelt message. She reminded them that they were chosen for a time like this, chosen for greatness, for distinction, and for a future filled with promise. She encouraged them never to forget their worth, their purpose, or the glory ahead of them, and she expressed deep gratitude to their parents for raising children of such exceptional character.

Mrs. Tolani also shared the touching story of David, her last child, who from around age five often spoke about the beauty and glory of heaven before his passing, words that continue to strengthen and inspire her, her family, and the Foundation’s mission, even amidst the enduring pain of his departure.

Voices from Past Events

The impact of the David Tolani Foundation has been consistently affirmed in earlier years, with families and educators sharing heartfelt reflections:

  • Yohanna Hill, Chief Advancement Officer, Tree of Life Schools: “It has been such a blessing to see firsthand the profound impact that the David Tolani Foundation has had on our students and families… the Foundation’s mission to turn loss into a legacy of strength by leading children to know the love of Christ.”
  • Colleen Caruso, Parent: “The way Mrs. Tolani spoke life into our son… reminding him who he was created to be in Christ and the purpose and plan God has for his life was powerful and unforgettable.”
  • Adrian Mya, Parent: “WOW! I am in absolute shock!… Never was I expecting to read that my son was being gifted a pair of Kyrie Irving basketball shoes. I am truly thankful to the Tolani family for this generous gift.”

These voices from previous events underscore the Foundation’s enduring mission: turning loss into legacy, and generosity into transformation.

The Foundation extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, supported, and prayed for the children and their families. The warmth and encouragement expressed throughout the day created unforgettable moments for the recipients and reinforced the power of community in uplifting the next generation.

DTF also expresses sincere appreciation to all partners and volunteers whose contributions made the event a resounding success.

The Foundation looks forward to welcoming the community again next summer for the 2026 Basketball Camp.
