A new wave of young Liberian American leaders has emerged from the 2025 Pennsylvania municipal elections, marking a proud moment for the Liberian diaspora community in the United States. Two trailblazers, Joar F. K. Dahn and Siddiq Kamara made history with groundbreaking victories that reflect a generational shift in civic engagement and community leadership.
Joar F. K. Dahn: Youngest Mayor-Elect in Pennsylvania
Joar F. K. Dahn has officially been elected Mayor of Darby Borough, making him the youngest Mayor-Elect in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the youngest in Darby’s history. His win is not only a personal triumph but a milestone for young immigrants and first-generation Americans striving to lead with purpose and unity.
Following his victory, he expressed gratitude to his team and residents: “The next generation of leadership starts now. Together, we built something powerful. This election saw the highest voter turnout our Borough has ever had proof that grassroots organizing still works. When you lead with hope, integrity, and purpose, people from all walks of life show up. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents united behind our vision for progress. I’m so proud of us, Darby, this is just the beginning.”
His message of inclusivity and optimism resonated throughout Darby Borough, signaling a new chapter in the city’s civic life.
Siddiq Kamara: Sheriff-Elect Delaware County
In Delaware County, Siddiq Kamara secured a decisive victory with 62.85% of the votes, defeating Republican candidate Robert Adams. Kamara’s win makes him the youngest Sheriff-Elect in America, a historic achievement that drew national attention and widespread celebration.
“We made history,” Kamara said in a heartfelt statement.
“For the last two years, I’ve walked every corner of Delaware County, knocking on doors, meeting voters, and sharing my story. When I made the decision to run for office, I was intentional, focused, and determined. And today, we didn’t just win, we made history together.”
Kamara credited his success to faith, hard work, and community support: “I want to thank everyone who believed in me — my family, friends, mentors, my amazing team, and most importantly, the people of Delaware County. This is what America is all about. Believe in yourself, stay grounded, and never give up.”
The victories of Dahn and Kamara underscore the growing influence of Liberian-Americans in U.S. politics, especially in Pennsylvania where community engagement and representation continue to rise. Both men embody the resilience, service, and vision of a new generation of leaders rooted in their heritage but determined to shape America’s future.
