Ukeme Awakessien Jeter has been making waves in the business and political world for some time now. She is the first Nigerian-American and African American to serve as council president and mayor of Upper Arlington, Ohio. Her achievements are not just limited to her political career; she is also a successful businesswoman, Engineer, and Attorney. Today, she is adding another title, “author,” to her name with her first book, Immi Grit.”
Jeter’s debut book, “Immi Grit,” is being talked in the City these days in the literary world. It’s not just another business book; it offers a unique perspective on how immigrant leadership drives business success. Drawing from her experiences working “within Fortune 500 companies, national law firms, universities, local government, and specialized agencies,” Jeter said. Immi Grit is a compelling exploration of immigrants’ unique strengths and perspectives on the business world.
As an immigrant herself who emigrated from Nigeria to the United States at the age of 18, Jeter understands the challenges and struggles that come with building a successful career in a new country. Her book aims to inspire and empower other immigrants to use their unique experiences and backgrounds to their advantage in the business world.
Beyond celebrating immigrant success, Jeter’s book is a powerful call for diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. She firmly believes that embracing diverse perspectives and backgrounds is a moral imperative and a strategic advantage that can drive innovation and business success.
“The idea for the book came to me after I delivered a commencement speech at my alma mater, the University of Maine, in 2022. Hearing the stories of international students who approached me after the speech left me with the impression that there is a gap in recognizing the significance of fostering a culture that harnesses the power of immigrant leadership to drive organizational success,” Jeter expressed.
With her groundbreaking achievements in politics, law, engineering, and business, as well as her inspiring book, Ukeme Awakessien Jeter, she is an actual role model for immigrants and aspiring leaders everywhere. She is breaking barriers and paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive future.
“Ukeme is a trendsetter who put her all into writing this book. On the pages of this book; you can feel the long days and short nights that she endured to produce this masterpiece”.
“It is a business extolling immigrant excellence and the benefits of immigrant leadership,” said Emmanuel Olawale of Ohio.
