Our Helpers, a Columbus, Ohio local non-profit organization, will host a Ribbon Cutting of New Community Free Store on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Elevate Northland 4848 Evanswood Drive, Columbus, from 11am to 2 pm.
“Through an unexpected donation from Walmart, Our Helpers received more than half a million dollars’ worth of food and merchandise,” Dr Dorothy Hassan, CEO Our Helpers.
“A partnership with Elevate Northland was the organic choice to bring this type of positive impact to the New American community. As the city of Columbus continues to celebrate the contributions of immigrants in Central Ohio, this initiative provides a powerful start for the New Americans in Central Ohio that help to make this city great.”
According to Dr Dorothy Hassan, “This initiative addresses scarcity trauma and is vital for the upliftment of our community, providing essential resources and support. By welcoming New American families, we create a foundation for them to settle, thrive, and contribute to the collective growth of this region.”
“This Community Free Store aims to spread joy and happiness among needy families, who struggle to buy specialty items due to budget restraints.”
Shopping at the community free store is by appointment only (614.733.9555 office). Once an appointment has been made, the family will be paired with a Shopping Ambassador who speaks their language and will explain the goods available with dignity and respect.
Our Helpers expressed appreciation for the generous support of partner agencies, including The City of Columbus Elevate grant funding, local businesses, concerned community members, volunteers, Walmart South High Street location and Market Coordinator Shamim Alzubaidi.
