While disagreements and differences may arise, the connections made with colleagues can ultimately lead to solid friendships and cherished memories. It is a reminder of the strength and impact of teamwork and cultivating relationships in the professional setting.
This was evident in the numerous stories and tributes shared for the late Brigid Kelly, who was not only a coworker but also a beloved friend to many. From State Representative Dontavius Jarrells to Rep Jessica Miranda and others, they all shared heartfelt memories of working alongside Kelly in the Ohio House and the deep bond they formed. After issuing a statement, Governor Mike DeWine ordered flags lowered in Kelly’s honor.
Kelly’s political journey began when she served as a Norwood City Council member. She then ran for state representative in 2016 and held that seat until her resignation in December 2022 after winning the Hamilton County Auditor race. However, on March 20th, 2023, Kelly resigned from that seat due to her diagnosis of esophageal cancer in 2022. Tragically, she passed away from the illness on March 26, 2024, at the young age of 40.
“Fran and I are saddened by the death of Hamilton County Auditor Brigid Kelly. Brigid dedicated much of her career to public service, first as a Norwood City Councilwoman, then as a State Representative, and then as Hamilton County Auditor. Like many who worked with her, I knew Brigid to be cordial, collaborative, and willing to work with both parties to help advance the interests of Ohioans. Fran and I extend our sincerest condolences to Brigid’s husband, Steve, and her entire family,” Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said.
“Brigid was not just the best among us; she was the best of us. In the vast expanse of humanity, every so often, a soul emerges that embodies pure grace, kindness, and unyielding dedication. Brigid Kelly was that rare gem among us. Her impact is immeasurable; her spirit is a guiding light transcending mere words. To say Brigid was universally adored barely grazes the surface of the love and respect she garnered from all who knew her,” said Representative Dontavius Jarrells.
Brigid was more than a public servant; she was warmth personified, a beacon of genuine care and empathy. Her presence transformed spaces, lifted spirits, and nurtured souls. She embodied what it means to lead with the heart first.
Her legacy is a tapestry of compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to improving the world. Those fortunate enough to have walked alongside her carry the indelible mark of her influence—her spirit, her kindness, etched into our very being, symbolized by the vibrant kelly green that mirrors her essence.
Thank you, Brigid, for being a voice that pushed me, an inspiration of authenticity, and a servant of love. I will always carry forward the collective spirit you showed in fighting for a better world. And to infinity and beyond,” Rep Jarrells said.
“May the road rise to meet you, my friend. May the wind be gentle at your back. May the blessed sun of heaven now. Shine warmly on your face. Until we meet again, I’ll see you on the other side,” Rep Jessica Miranda said.
“Heavy hearted to hear the passing of Brigid. I served next to her on the Norwood City Council and as she went to serve in many high positions- she NEVER forgot where she came from and ALWAYS advocated for Norwood. THANK YOU MY FRIEND. You will be Dearly Missed,” Michael Gabby Gabbard said.
