Remembering Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Her 91st Birthday: A Tribute by Judge Carl Aveni

Posted by: New Americans Magazine , March 17, 2024

By Okon Ekpenyong

On March 15, Judge Carl Aveni of Franklin County paid homage to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on her 91st birth anniversary. In his tribute, Judge Aveni reflected on Justice Ginsburg’s legacy, particularly her unwavering commitment to advocating for the disenfranchised and marginalized. Last Friday, March 15th, would have been her 91st birthday.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a champion for women’s rights and gender equality, gaining fame in the 1970s for her groundbreaking work. In 1993, she was appointed to the Supreme Court, becoming the second woman to hold this esteemed position. She was born on March 15, 1933, and died on September 18, 2020, at the age of 87.

Judge Carl Aveni

Judge Aveni praised Justice Ginsburg for her unwavering advocacy for equal rights and opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their race or circumstances. He highlighted her clarity in expressing her views and noted that her voice and actions have impacted society. Justice Ginsburg’s legacy will continue to inspire and motivate future generations to fight for what they believe and what is right for others to live in an equal world.

Some of Justice Ginsburg’s notable achievements include her successful efforts to remove gender discrimination in laws and policies, her advocacy for women’s rights and reproductive rights, and her critical role in shaping legal precedent for gender equality. Her work has profoundly impacted society, resulting in greater gender equality and opportunities for women.

In her own words, Justice Ginsburg once said, “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” This quote encapsulates her perseverance and determination in pursuing justice and equality. Another famous quote from her is, “Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.” It reflects her belief in the power of incremental progress and the significance of not succumbing to obstacles.

Justice Ginsburg firmly believed that change starts at the grassroots level. She encouraged individuals to take action and positively impact their communities, believing that small, individual efforts could eventually lead to significant societal changes. Her legacy and contributions will continue inspiring people to strive for equality and justice in their communities, honoring her life’s work and ensuring that her beliefs and values live on for generations.

As we commemorate Justice Ginsburg’s birthday, let us celebrate her relentless efforts to create a more equitable and just world for all. Her legacy will continue to shape society, and her words will continue to guide us in our quest for equality and justice.

Judge Carl Aveni was elected the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas General Division judge in 2020. He is known for his strong advocacy for upholding the law and protecting the rights of those who come before him. His colleagues and community members regard him highly for his unwavering devotion to the pursuit of justice.
