Columbus City Mayor Andrew Ginther, with elected officials and community leaders will showcase the impact of the Columbus Housing Strategy, the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) on Tuesday, April 2.
“Central Ohio’s housing supply is not keeping pace with our record growth. If current building patterns continue, regional housing demand is projected to eclipse supply by 2030, and everyone in our region will experience the consequences,” warned Mayor Andrew Ginther.
“The Columbus Housing Strategy means we must build more housing of all kinds – market-rate, workforce and affordable.”
Mayor Ginter added that “as we do, we must employ new tools to build twice as much housing and invest in additional affordable housing for families and individuals. We must also preserve existing affordability and protect residents from eviction and displacement.”
“With all of this work, we will include low-income residents and people of color by cultivating economically diverse neighborhoods.”
Each year, National Community Development Week highlights how funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) helps build strong, resilient, and vibrant communities across America.
The City of Columbus showcase will consist of three phases: networking with light refreshments (8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.), presentations from community leaders (9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.), and a shuttle bus tour (10:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.).
The shuttle bus will travel through the South Side and visit the South End Cafe, Livingston Park, and more. Riders will learn about the financing tools that brought these housing developments to life.
Interested members of the public can RSVP by Friday, March 22. Space is limited.
