One of the critical initiatives of Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services, ETSS, a Columbus-based nonprofit, is its partnership with the Walmart mega store, one of the largest retail corporations in the world. Recently, ETSS hosted Walmart at their Whitehall office for an event focused on Walmart’s Power of Three program and its diversity hiring initiative. This partnership is a testament to ETSS’s commitment to providing its clients in the new American community with opportunities for success.
Ethiopia Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS) is a non-profit organization based in Central Ohio that assists refugees and immigrants from all ethnic groups in establishing roots and becoming self-sufficient. Founded in 1982, ETSS has been a crucial resource for individuals and families seeking a better life in the United States.

The Power of Three program at Walmart focuses on three key areas: hiring, training, and promoting diverse talent within the company. Through this program, Walmart aims to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace for its employees. It aligns perfectly with ETSS’s mission to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds and support their integration into the American workforce.
During the event, participants could hear from ETSS clients employed at Walmart. These individuals shared their personal experiences and how ETSS has played a vital role in their journey to success. From navigating the job market to overcoming cultural barriers, these clients have not only found employment at Walmart but have also become valuable members of their teams.
ETTS has released a statement expressing their gratitude to Walmart for partnering with them and providing an opportunity to showcase the impact of their collaboration. The event was a true reflection of the Power of Three program, which brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds and demonstrated the strength of inclusivity and diversity in the workplace. ETTS sincerely appreciates Walmart’s partnership and the opportunity to work together toward a common goal.
At ETSS, they firmly believe that face-to-face interactions are essential for team building, cross-functional collaboration, and reducing friction in the work process. However, in light of the ongoing pandemic, the organization has also seen the benefits of working from home.
It also has eliminated the stress of commuting for our clients, giving them more time for self-care and family. Furthermore, they are constantly exploring new ways to support their clients, and they are grateful for the support and partnership of companies like Walmart in our mission.
“As we look towards the future, we are excited about the potential of this partnership and the positive impact it will have on the New American workforce in Central Ohio and beyond. “Together, we can empower individuals from diverse backgrounds and create a more inclusive and equitable society,” said ETTS.
