Unbroken and undeterred by the ongoing civil war in their homeland, Sudan, students from North and South Sudan, under the aegis of the North and South Sudan Students’ Association (NSSA) at the Ohio State University came together recently for their annual cultural night with the most appropriate theme, “Sudan Unbroken: Stories of Resilience and Strength.”
The students used the opportunity to motivate themselves and their guests with speeches, songs, folklore dances, culture, and a performance by the famous Sudanese American rapper G-Salih.
Guided and mentored by one of their lecturers, Professor Sumia Hassan, together with the dedicated and active Sudanese American community members in Central Ohio, led by Mrs. Alia Hassan, the students were able to raise $4,630 in donations to support the victims of the ongoing civil war in the Sudan
NSSA’s highlights for this year’s celebration included:
– To share their culture and raise awareness about the war in Sudan and the resilience and optimism of Sudanese about the future of the Sudan
– To give students the chance to celebrate Sudan’s diverse culture and share it with OSU community
– To raise money for the victims of the war in the Sudan.
– And to use the annual event to connect the students with their Sudanese American community who share their wisdoms and the socio-sphere dynamics in Sudan despite the ongoing conflict.
