On December 31, 2023, a significant moment took place in the city of Whitehall, Ohio. Michael T. Bivens was inaugurated as the city’s first African American mayor, marking a historic milestone for diversity and representation in the town’s 76-year history. This momentous occasion brought together prominent black leaders and influencers who witnessed the making of history.
Biven’s journey to this moment began when he became the first African American city attorney in Whitehall eight years ago. His dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed; it was no surprise when he decided to run for mayor. The swearing-in ceremony was a testament to his determination and community support.
Mayor Michael T. Bivens, a long-term resident of Whitehall, has a distinguished background that includes serving in the military and attending Capital University Law School before entering private practice. With more than twelve years of experience in public office, Mayor Biven has been instrumental in the tremendous development of Whitehall, and he remains committed to advancing its progress. His vision includes providing additional resources for all residents, including the new American community members who are integral to the city.
