The Power Parenting® Company LLC, in partnership with the S.A.F.E® for Children Society, presented the #NOPROTECTIONNOCHILDHOOD Town Hall Meeting and the S.A.F.E® for Children Conference on Saturday, November 25, 2023. These events were hosted virtually by Taiwo Akinlami, the Co-Founder and CEO of The Power Parenting® Company LLC.
Introduction
The #NOPROTECTIONNOCHILDHOOD Town Hall Meeting, initially launched as a campaign responding to the tragic death of Sylvester Oromoni—a child who allegedly suffered fatal bullying at a school in Lagos State, Nigeria—aims to foster an exchange of best practices in child protection. This exchange bridges the African continent with developed regions, notably North America and Europe, focusing especially on communities of African descent. The goal is to secure a friendly and protective environment for children.
In parallel, the S.A.F.E® for Children Conference, first held on November 20, 2017, to commemorate World Children’s Day, marks the United Nations’ adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Children. Since its inception, the conference has welcomed over 10,000 children, youths, and eminent personalities, offering interactive and empowering sessions. The overwhelmingly positive impact and feedback underscore its significance.
Both the 20th edition of the #NOPROTECTIONNOCHILDHOOD Town Hall Meeting and the 7th edition of the S.A.F.E® for Children Conference were held on November 25th, 2023, aligning with World Children’s Day. The Town Hall meeting attracted over 400 participants, while the S.A.F.E® for Children Conference was attended by over 500 children and caregivers from diverse locations including the USA, Canada, Nigeria, and Europe. Both events were convened by Taiwo Akinlami, Co-founder and CEO of The Power Parenting® Company LLC, based in the USA.
The S.A.F.E® for Children Conference, moderated by the talented young Talent KANJO, focused on the theme “Every Part of My Body is Private to Me”. Keynote speaker Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo AKINLAMI, with her extensive background in medical physics and education, and guest speaker Ms. Olabisi AFOLABI, a seasoned lawyer in social development, engaged the children in meaningful dialogue, addressing their pressing questions.
The Town Hall Meeting delved into “How Law Enforcement Can Strengthen Community-Led Efforts to Protect Our Precious Children”. Distinguished speakers included 1st Assistant Chief LaShanna POTTS, celebrated for her community relations work; DCP Monday AGBONIKA fdc, a veteran police officer with over three decades of experience; Mrs. Lindora Kolu HOWARD-DIAWARA, a noted civil society and women’s rights activist; and Sgt Brian STEEL, a long-serving police officer and acting President of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9. Their insights critically addressed community and law enforcement roles in child protection.
We are pleased to announce that the next S.A.F.E® for Children Conference will take place in November next year. Additionally, the forthcoming Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for January 27, 2024. These events will continue to focus on crucial aspects of Securing a Friendly and Protective Environment® for Children, extending our reach to include participants from various cities and countries.
