Since opening its doors, Lalibela Restaurant has become a local favorite for its tantalizing Ethiopian and African dishes in the Columbus area. It’s also a popular destination for both immigrants and non-immigrants alike.
Situated between Main Street and Hamilton Road, this humble, family-run establishment has earned a reputation as the top Ethiopian eatery and one of the best African restaurants in Central Ohio
Lalibela is an Ethiopian word derived from the Amharic language, meaning “the bees acknowledge their king.” This term is believed to be about King Lalibela, who ruled Ethiopia during the 12th century. The King is credited with constructing a series of rock-cut churches in the area.
The restaurant’s windows display iconic churches, clarifying its name. The walls display Ethiopian art and the place traditional music. The menu features Ethiopian dishes like Kitfo Sandwich and vegetarian options, along with African delicacies such as Doro Wot, Yassa Poulet, and Mafe.
It also offers an incredible array of authentic Ethiopian vegetarian dishes, rich dishes, sandwiches, lamb/beef entrees, and plenty of poultry entrees, and they have a whole tilapia dish, all cooked perfectly in pure olive oil. In addition, Lalibela offers an option to try its famous injera with every meal.
With its warm and inviting atmosphere, along with the lively and colorful decor, it’s no surprise that both returning patrons and first-time visitors alike are drawn to this restaurant. Their staff’s warm and attentive approach ensures guests have a delightful experience.
