Ohio Governor Mike DeWine attended the first meeting of the new Ohio School Bus Safety Working Group to examine school transportation safety related to several factors such as seat belts, driver training, bus inspections, critical incident protocol, and crash risk factors.
During the meeting, group members are expected to examine topics related to school bus rules and regulations, design and maintenance, and driver licensing and certification.
“We have an obligation to say we are doing everything we can that school buses are safe,” said Governor Mike DeWine.
“The working group will hold public hearings, and make recommendations by the end of the year. In a sense they are reporting to people of Ohio, the state legislators and they are reporting to the governor. It is incumbent on us to take the recommendations and make sure we implement them.”
