Business and life may seem complex and unpredictable. One moment you think you have it all figured out, and the next moment you realize that you aren’t sure of what you’re doing. However, experienced people who have done business and life intentionally understand that there’s truly nothing new under the sun. We are not the first set of humans on Earth, and we trust we won’t be the last. The events we are experiencing in business and life have happened to millions of humans before us. In some cases, our ancestors blessed us with their thoughts on certain life events and topics by writing a book.
The great moment you’re experiencing has been experienced by millions before you in similar fashion. The ugly moment you may be facing isn’t new. Understanding this helps us not to overrate the moment and also seek wisdom and patterns from history. History is a great teacher, and history is full of patterns we can learn from.
To create systems that ensure your success is evergreen, you have to learn from others who have been to the place you are or have studied people who have been where you are. To break the cycle of failure, you have to seek the wisdom of those who have failed and broken the ugly head of failure, or those who have studied those who have done things over and over again. Our world offers limitless possibilities to those who are humble and brave enough to study history and learn from it.
To succeed in business and life, you need to embrace books and mentors. It’s the pathway to avoid unnecessary roadblocks. Here are a few steps to find great mentors and books:
Mentors
The importance of mentors cannot be overstated. However, it’s important to be selective about who you choose to be mentored by. In selecting a mentor, you need to focus on people who have achieved intentional success and have the heart to help others. Intentional success means they have achieved great things that they planned to achieve and achieved it against all odds.
In the United States, entrepreneurs can find free mentors on platforms like SCORE.org. Since 1964, SCORE has helped more than 11 million entrepreneurs start, grow, or successfully exit a business. SCORE’s 10,000 volunteers provide free, expert mentoring, resources, and education in all 50 U.S. states and territories. It really doesn’t matter what you’re dealing with or what your goals are, there’s a suitable mentor if you’re willing to find and ask. To keep your relationship with your mentor, it’s important to make the best use of the good and selfless advice they give.
Books
Books are secret weapons. I’ve written four books, and my fifth book will be out soon. I’ve been blessed by books, and I’ve weaponized the knowledge to achieve my audacious goals. One of my favorite books is the Bible. Great lessons about faith, life, wars, love, business, betrayal, honor, integrity, marriage, and the afterlife can be found in the Bible. Some of my other favorite books are Great by Choice, Zero to One, Outliers, The Power of Habit, The Richest Man in Babylon, and The Alchemist.
There are many great people who have achieved intentional success, and their secrets have been documented in books. Books can save you a lot of unnecessary roadblocks on your success journey. The habit of reading is one of the habits of very successful people. Today, beyond books, we have podcasts, helpful videos, and social media posts. All of this useful content can help anyone seeking intentional success achieve great success against all odds.
