Ohioans have started to vote “Yes” or “No” on Issue 1, which is requesting for 60percent vote to amend the State Constitution rather than a majority vote, as early voting in-person began on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the 88 counties for the August 8, 2023 Special Election.

This is a proposed legislation of Joint Resolution of the General Assembly to amend Sections 1b, 1e, and 1g of Article II and Sections 1 and 3 of Article XVI of the Constitution of the State of Ohio.

While a yes vote will allow the amendment to pass, a no vote will defeat the amendment.

Also, while the Republicans want a yes vote, the Democrats are canvassing for a no vote.

The proposed amendment would:
• Require that any proposed amendment to the Constitution of the State of Ohio receive the approval of at least 60 percent of eligible voters voting on the proposed amendment.
• Require that any initiative petition filed on or after January 1, 2024 with the Secretary of State proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio be signed by at least five percent of the electors of each county based on the total vote in the county for governor in the last preceding election.
• Specify that additional signatures may not be added to an initiative petition proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio that is filed with the Secretary of State on or after January 1, 2024 proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Ohio.
If passed, the amendment will be effective immediately.

Voters in the early voting can cast their ballots from Tuesday, July 11, 2023 to Sunday, August 6, 2023.

July 11-14: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

July 17-21: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

July 24-28: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

July 31: 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

August 1: 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.

August 2-4: 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

August 5: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

August 6: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
