The 91st Annual Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors began Friday, June 2, 2023 in the city of Columbus, Ohio in high speed, spanning many sessions and official opening at the Hilton Downtown.
The Mayors discussed a range of topics related to children, health, and human services.
These topics included the need for increased mental health services, the importance of early childhood education, and the need for improved access to healthcare for low-income families.
At the session on impacts of immigrants on the economy, the Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb highlighted the importance of immigrant communities in the United States, and the value of immigrants to the economy and culture.
He emphasized the need for comprehensive immigration reform and called on Congress to come together to pass legislation that would protect the rights of all immigrants.
He also acknowledged the hard work and courage of those who had come to the US in search of a better life.
Last year, we had the pleasure of interviewing Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner, who has made tremendous progress in his city in the past year. We caught up with him to find out about the progress he has made and the challenges he faces going forward.
