Posted by: New Americans Magazine , April 26, 2022

Anti-bullying campaign Columbus-based nonprofit, Empower our Youth Foundation has received a grant of N3,000-dollar from Pitch. The Youth Empower Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2017 to promote education among youths and an anti-bullying campaign to provide resources to the community.

The money will help launch the curriculum and the guidebook and provide youth with a fun family experience outing this summer.

EYF founder Tonya Kelly, who receive the grant at a ceremony organized Saturday expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization.

The business owners of the Urban Business Development Center awarded the checks to five winners of the Pitch competition.

Tonya Kelly, the founder of Empower our youth foundation, and Board Members Robert Kelly Jr and Quan Abazie accepted the prize money on behalf of the foundation.

Empower our Youth Foundation was one of the five winners of the Pitch Competition.

A Pitch competition is where you pitch a new service or programming for your business or launch a new business. It is an 8-week accelerator program with the Urban Business Development Center for small black business owners.

On April 4, 2022, the Columbus city council passed an ordinance, 0836-2022, that would authorize the city to enter into $20,000 grant agreement with the Urban business development center. The initiative would support the center’s launching of a small business school accelerator program.

Entrepreneurs who participated in the first-ever Urban Launch School were Jamie of the alternative Bureau, Na’imah of the hair Chef LLC, Bianca of La Jefa, Tahlayah of “Carry A Mood,” Nneke of the magic of self-care by Imani handcrafted, and Chanel of Women’s Leadership. Ernest of the Royal Oak initiative, Tonya Kelly of Empower our youth foundation, Shai of recycling the culture, and Drew of TakeASeat.
