Laura Berger Abbas is the Chief Operating Officer at Our Helpers, a nonprofit organization. She has worked in nonprofits for over 15+ years, including at the Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services, ETSS as Director of Development. Laura lives in Gahanna with her husband Waad and daughter Rose, while three grown children are in college. She loves to travel, spend time with family and friends and learn new languages. Recently, Our Helpers was listed as one of the 12 agencies selected to facilitate the disbursement of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program funds to residents made vulnerable by the Covid19 pandemic. “The need for this service is overwhelming,” Laura told the New Americans magazine.

I have volunteered at Our Helpers for over three years, writing grants, helping with infrastructure, and high-level guidance to the Board of Directors. In 2020 I was asked to serve as the COO.

The mission of Our Helpers is to improve the lives of immigrant and refugee families by connecting and providing resources in all aspects of human services.

ERA-1
The need for this service is overwhelming. We have finished all our funding from the first grant of Emergency Rental Assistance Program, ERA-1 funds, which was over $200,000 in three months.
Program 2022
To continue housing stabilization and employment development. Basketball tournaments for girls and boys of a variety of ages after Ramadan.
