. Calls President Trump to intervene on Face masks tech approval
. To invest more on health after COVID-19
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has appealed to residents and businesses to aid the state with personal protective equipment or any other essential services or resources.
“We are asking residents and businesses who can donate Personal Protective Equipment, PPE or any other essential service or resource to please email Together@Governor.Ohio.Gov.,” said Governor Mike DeWine.
“I think when we come out of this, one of the lessons we are learning as a country is that we have to invest more in public health. It’s not a Democrat problem, it’s not a Republican problem”
“The second lesson is that we never want to be in a position where we can’t buy very important medical equipment in this country. We have to source this equipment in this country.”
On FDA approval for new face masks’ sterilization technology, Governor DeWine said “I called President Trump this morning. The President called me back. I explained to him what is happening. We had a good conversation. He understands that we want to protect our first responders/hospital employees. He was great. He said “I’m moving. I’ll get this done.”
“I expect a decision today. I’m an impatient guy, but lives are literally at stake. We want everyone in the country to understand the importance of this. It’s why I called the President. The USFDA commissioner assured me this would be done today. I’m cautiously optimistic.”
“We do what we have to do to protect Ohioans. What happened today is we’ve compressed into a short period of time what sometimes takes days. We hope this will allow us to get the approval for Battelle before midnight tonight so that they can help us save people.“
“The urgency of today is because we know that we have people on the frontline today who don’t’ have the masks they need. They are using masks longer than they normally would, but they are doing it because they don’t have a choice.“
Battelle’s Lew Von Thaer said, “We’ve proven this technology and we’ve built a system that can clean and reuse masks up to 20 times.”
”We plan to take masks from all over the state. We are ready to help everyone.”
