The inaugural Ohio Somali Book Fair, held at the Marriott Columbus, brought together members of the Somali community, readers, and authors for a powerful celebration of literature, identity, and cultural expression.

The event welcomed Somali book authors from Columbus, Ohio, and Minnesota, reflecting the growing literary presence of Somali voices across the Midwest. Community members gathered to support the authors and engage in meaningful dialogue centered on heritage, migration, and the importance of preserving stories through the written word.

A central highlight of the evening was a panel interview featuring three Somali authors, who spoke openly about their personal journeys and what inspired them to write their books. During the discussion, the authors shared how storytelling became a way to document lived experiences, honor cultural roots, and give voice to narratives often overlooked. Their reflections resonated strongly with the audience, emphasizing the role of literature in educating, empowering, and connecting generations.
Beyond the panel discussion, the Somali Book Fair created a welcoming space for conversation and connection. Attendees had the opportunity to meet the authors, explore a variety of books rooted in Somali history and contemporary life, and celebrate the richness of Somali language and culture. The atmosphere reflected unity, pride, and a shared commitment to community growth through education and creativity.

The Ohio Somali Book Fair stood as more than a literary gathering—it was a reflection of resilience, cultural preservation, and the power of storytelling within immigrant communities. By bringing authors and readers together, the event reinforced the importance of creating platforms where diverse voices are seen, heard, and celebrated.

The event was further enriched by sweet treats provided by Fardi Catering of New Albany, Ohio. The beautifully prepared desserts added warmth and hospitality to the event, offering guests a taste of Somali culinary tradition while encouraging continued conversation and fellowship.
