The Columbus City Council hosted the 5th Annual Diwali Dinner in its chambers on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, honoring the vibrant Sanatan Festival of Lights celebrated around the world by Hindu, Jain, Sikh, Buddhist, and other Asian Indian Sanatan communities.
The guests gathered in unity to celebrate the spirit of Diwali — a festival symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Dr. J. S. Jindal, whose heartfelt words set the tone for an atmosphere filled with joy, respect, and cultural appreciation.
Guests joined together in traditional candle lighting and prayers, reflecting the deeper meaning of Diwali — to bring light, peace, and prosperity into the community and beyond.

Columbus City Council representatives were given the opportunity to speak at the opening of the celebration, expressing gratitude for the contributions of the Indian community and emphasizing the importance of cultural diversity in strengthening the city’s unity. Their words highlighted how festivals like Diwali foster understanding, inclusivity, and mutual respect among people of all backgrounds.
The event served as a beautiful reminder of the richness of Bhartiya (Indian) culture and customs, sharing its positive values of love, harmony, and compassion with everyone in attendance. Guests enjoyed meaningful conversations, traditional music, and the collective joy that filled the hall as candles were lit and blessings were shared.
As the evening came to a close, the light of Diwali continued to shine brightly in the hearts of all — a symbol of hope, unity, and the enduring power of goodness.
