Members of the Guinean community in Columbus, Ohio celebrated the Guinean 67th Independence Day with the raising of flag at the Statehouse, Columbus, Ohio.
Dressed in the country’s flag colors of green, yellow and red many that showed up at the Capitol sang and danced to popular Guinean music to celebrate the anniversary witnessed by officials from the New African Immigrants Commission, City of Columbus, Ohio House of Representatives and other community leaders.

“It is a celebration and a remembrance of those who fought for the independence of Guinea led by late Ahmed Sekou Toure,” said Ibrahima Sory Yansane, President of Guinean Association of Columbus, Ohio.
“Guinea has made some progress. We hope it will continue and be able to stand among developed nations.”
“The world is changing, and African countries need to wake up. Let us continue to work hard to serve our country and Africa. It is a long process, but we shall reach the victory line.”
“We are happy to celebrate this day and bring everyone together at the Statehouse to raise the Guinean flag,” said Nene Adama Diallo, a community leader.


Also speaking on the anniversary, the Executive Director of the New African Immigrants Commission, Ibrahima Sow said “The Ohio New African Immigrants Commission (ONAIC) was part of history today, joining the Guinean Association of Columbus Ohio (GACO) and community members to recognize Guinean Independence Day with a flag-raising ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse.
“The event, spearheaded by the community champion Nene Diallo, is an example of communities showcasing the strength of Ohio – it’s growing foreign-born.”
NAIC Director Ibrahima Sow presented a commendation certificate to Nene Adama Diallo and the organizers in recognition of the historic occasion.
