Columbus City Council members, Northland community leaders and business community joined Elevate Northland for a groundbreaking ceremony to add new community rooms and co-working space at 4848 Evanswood Drive, Columbus, Ohio.
“The Center’s improvements, funded through generous gifts by donors and funding from the State of Ohio, Franklin County, the City of Columbus and the AEP Foundation, will include three Community Rooms that can be used for meetings and events, and will be designed to expand into one or two larger rooms. Additional restroom facilities and modernization of the office space are included in the plans,” said Alice Foeller, Chair & Co-Founder.

“The Center has become a hub of nonprofit, art and business activity in Northland. Even without the renovations, Northland’s first GCAC-funded art exhibit was held in the warehouse space this summer, attracting exhibiting-artists and visitors.
Councilmember Emmanuel Remy described the groundbreaking event as “a great milestone for our community, the community I call home, Northland. I’d like to thank Alice for all the work that she’s put into this, along with her entire team, our community partners and the public and private funders who have helped bring this vision to life. The commitment to this project into this neighborhood truly makes a difference.
“Since I took office, I prioritized connecting with people, connecting people and organizations working every day to build opportunity in our city’s neighborhoods. Elevate Northland and has been doing just that, creating space for small businesses, nonprofits, artists, and entrepreneurs to thrive.”
Also, Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla commended the efforts of the Elevate Northland and for their service to the community, especially the new American community.
“Since I came on council, I came in with a strong platform around immigrant and refugee affairs, as they are the number one factor behind our population growth. We just started the Immigrant and Refugee Commission.”
Four nonprofit organizations currently call the space home, including Elevate Northland, Northland Community House, Our Helpers, Leveling the Playing Field and the Northland Area Business Association.
Business tenants include SiteInSIght web marketing, Atlas Butler Heating and Cooling (auxiliary location) and MP Digital. The construction project will create additional space for nonprofits and businesses in Northland, as well as providing meeting space and event space for the community. The center currently offers co-working memberships, office space and warehouse space with access via loading docks and drive-in bay doors.
The organization has raised $3 million toward this project and has been working with Moody-Nolan architects and with advice, guidance and support from Cameron Mitchell of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants — both of Columbus — to envision and plan the project.
