The Reynoldsburg City Schools community is celebrating a major achievement as Taya Kidd, a second-grade teacher at French Run Elementary School, has been named the 2027 Ohio Teacher of the Year.
Kidd was recognized during a special SOAR assembly at French Run Elementary, where students, families, colleagues, and guests gathered to celebrate her outstanding dedication to education and her students.
She began her teaching career after graduating from Central State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. She first worked as a substitute teacher before teaching preschool at Brightside Academy. She later spent nine years teaching at South Scioto Performance Academy.
In 2019, Kidd joined French Run Elementary School, where she has continued to make a meaningful impact as a second-grade teacher. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she serves on the school’s Building Leadership Team and Professional Development Committee.
Her commitment to young people extends well beyond the classroom. Kidd also coaches the Pickerington North High School freshman girls’ basketball team and serves as a DJ under the name “Ms. Cool Kidd” at school and community events. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in multicultural education at The Ohio State University.
As the 2027 Ohio Teacher of the Year, Kidd will serve as an ambassador for Ohio educators and public education. She will also represent the state in the 2027 National Teacher of the Year selection process and related programming through the Council of Chief State School Officers.
