By The Guinean Association of Columbus, Ohio (G.A.C.O.), in partnership with Going Home Africa, will host Guinea’s 68th Independence Day Brunch on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Columbus Metropolitan Library, New Albany, 200 Market Street, New Albany, Ohio from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
Guinea Independence Day, observed every October 2, commemorates the nation’s pivotal 1958 declaration of sovereignty from French colonial rule.
“Under the theme “One Guinea. One Community. One Future”, the celebration will bring together members of the Guinean community, community leaders, professionals, families, organizations, and friends of Guinea for an afternoon dedicated to our history, culture, heritage, and shared aspirations for the future,” said Ibrahim Yansane, President of Guinean Association of Columbus.
“While this occasion is centered on Guinea, we firmly believe that our African communities in the diaspora are connected by much more than geography. Our shared history, cultural heritage, family ties, traditions, and common experience as African communities abroad create bonds that deserve to be nurtured and strengthened.”
Also speaking on the 68th Independence Day Brunch, Diallo Sanoussy, CEO of Going Home Africa said, “we hope this gathering will also provide an opportunity for community leaders to connect, exchange ideas, strengthen relationships, and explore ways in which our communities can continue to support one another.
“The program will include elements celebrating Guinea’s cultural diversity, including the heritage of its four natural regions, cultural expressions, community participation, and reflections on the meaning of independence and belonging.”
