ETSS Hosts Capacity Building Workshop for Central Ohio Nonprofit Agencies

Twenty nonprofit organizations in central Ohio on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, began an intensive eight-week Capacity-Building Workshop hosted by ETSS Tewahedo Social Services. The Capacity-Building Workshop is a Grassroots Empowerment Initiative funded by Columbus Foundation.

Each class is designed to last between one and half to two hours.

The nonprofit organizations participating in the fall workshop include Abyssinia Children of Hope, American Afar Diaspora, ARDH, Burmese Community, Bete Yared, Congolese community of Columbus Ohio, Give Hope Africa, International Cultural and Relief Association, and No More Pain Initiative.

Others include Immigrants Integration, New American Community Information Center, New American Cultural Center, Immigrants Integration, Production Africa, Somaliland Community of America, Securing a Friendly, Protective Environment for Children Society, SkillHer, Shalom Curriculum Project and United Somali Roots Inc.

Speakers at the opening of the fall cohort included Erin Scott, Director, Capacity Building and Community Knowledge, Columbus Foundation, Kourtni Hatton, Vice President/Chief People & Equity Officer, United Way, Kenneth Welson, Administrator, Franklin County, Dr. Derek Anderson, Assistant Director, City of Columbus, Department of Neighborhoods, and Columbus City Council Member, Lourdes Barroso de Padilla who gave the keynote address.

The workshop for nonprofit organizations in central Ohio that are led by an immigrant or refugee is expected to provide capacity-building training to help nonprofit leaders more effectively govern, manage and expand their operations and services.

The workshop will include training on such topics as Vision and planning, Board governance and structure, Program design and evaluation, Financial management and operations, Public relations and community collaboration, Fundraising and resource development, Management and human resources Advocacy.

It is expected to give leaders of nonprofit organization opportunities to learn, connect with other leaders and broaden the awareness of your mission.
