February 1, 2025 marks the 13th annual World Hijab Day, a global event dedicated to recognizing and supporting millions of Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab.
This year’s theme, HijabisUnsilenced, highlights the resilience and voices of hijab-wearing women, challenging stereotypes and advocating for their rights.
Founded in 2013 by Nazma Khan, WHD encourages people of all backgrounds to stand in
solidarity with Muslim women who face discrimination for their choice of dress. The movement has grown into an international campaign, sparking discussions on religious freedom, women’s empowerment, and cultural understanding.
Moreover, global events and online campaigns are bringing attention to the challenges and achievements of hijab-wearing women, as they share personal experiences and challenge misconceptions.
Advocates continue to push for greater inclusivity and strong protection against hijab-related discrimination in workplaces, schools, and public spaces.
As the conversation continues, HijabisUnsilenced serves as a reminder that wearing the hijab is a personal and empowered choice, one that should be respected and celebrated.
