Ohio First Lady Commiserates with Dolly Parton’s Family

Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine has commiserated with the family of music icon Dolly Parton on her death at the age of 80.

“Mike and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dolly Parton. She touched countless lives in profound and meaningful ways.

“Her devotion to children and literacy is unparalleled. Because of Dolly, millions of children around the country and the world are getting free books and learning how to read, which will, in many cases, change the trajectory of their lives. Because of Dolly’s vision and generosity, over one million Ohio children have received free books in the mail, totaling nearly 28 million books.

“Her generosity and selfless spirit leave a legacy that will live on for generations to come. We remain incredibly grateful for her compassion and commitment to others.”

Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death in a video posted to social media Tuesday.

‘After a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have some rest.’

“My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, sister, sis, and granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he said.

Seaver said Parton had asked him years ago to be prepared to announce her death.

Meanwhile, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio effective immediately until sunset, September 1, 2026, ordered in honor of the life and legacy of Dolly Parton.
