Children’s Creative Writing & Arts Festival Debuts at New Americans Book Fair 2026

Based on the success of the 2025 Essay, Short Story, and Drawing Competition for K-12 students, children will be taking their own space at the 2026 New Americans Book Fair with the inaugural Children’s Creative Writing & Arts Festival at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10AM.

“The need to have the Children’s Creative Writing & Arts Festival at this year’s book fair is due to the success of the 2025 Essay, Short Story, and Drawing Competition for K-12 students and the Columbus City Department of Neighborhoods seed grant for Youth Media Communication Development program last spring,” said Deba Uwadiae, Co-Ordinator, New Americans Book Fair.

“It is going to be fun-filled activities for the kids to own their stands, tell their stories, exhibit their works in all forms, including arts, books and even music. It is also free registration for the children”

“Interestingly, this will be a boost to the fifth edition of the New Americans Book Fair with the opening of the registration portal for 2026.” Click to register.

The New Americans Book Fair is an annual literary and cultural showcase that highlights the creativity, achievements, and diverse perspectives of all, including immigrants and New American communities in Central Ohio and beyond. It brings together authors, poets, journalists, illustrators, publishers, educators, and community organizations to celebrate storytelling in all its forms, books, art, media, and lived experience.

More than a book exhibition, the Fair serves as a platform for empowerment, giving immigrants and first‑generation voices the opportunity to share their work, connect with readers, and engage in meaningful dialogue about identity, belonging, and community development. It also provides young people with exposure to writing, publishing, media literacy, and creative expression.

The event features:

  • Author readings and book signings
  • Panel discussions
  • Workshops on writing, publishing, and storytelling
  • Exhibitions by community organizations, cultural groups, and small businesses
  • Special recognition of contributions to Ohio’s social, cultural, and economic landscape

The New Americans Book Fair has become a signature cultural event in Columbus, reinforcing the city’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the celebration of immigrant heritage. It stands as a bridge between communities, honoring the stories that shape America’s evolving narrative.
