The Northern Lights Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library celebrated 7o years Thursday, September 24, 2026, with community leaders, parents, children, city officials and staff savoring the opportunities provided by a remodeled, community-focused public hub that originally opened its doors in the historic Northern Lights Shopping Center in 1956.
Many of the patrons spoken to said it was worth celebrating at 70, noting that “the facility is well-lit, clean, and quiet, offering a welcoming environment with cozy seating and comfortable reading spaces.”
Columbus City Councilmember Emmanuel Remy presented a commemorative certificate celebrating the 70th anniversary to the branch manager.
The library was transformed 10 years to its modern look.
It features a large children’s reading and play area with interactive activities and play structures, alongside a dedicated teen hangout space.
The library also offers an extensive computer lab, free WiFi, homework stations, five study rooms, meeting rooms, and easy-to-use AV equipment.
Some other services are a drive-through for picking up holds and returning materials, mobile printing, and low-cost fax services.
