By Former Nigeria Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (GCFR), and the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu are expected to attend the public presentation of the Vanguard Media Alumni’s landmark book, The Vanguard Chronology: 40 Years of Nigeria’s Leading Tabloid, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Grandeur Event Center, Oregun, Lagos.
The event marks a historic moment in Nigeria’s media landscape, celebrating four decades of Vanguard’s contribution to journalism, national development, and public discourse.
“It also celebrates the extraordinary legacy of the Founder and Publisher, Mr. Sam Amuka, who turned 91 years old on June 13, 2026. His influence on the Nigerian media landscape remains profound and enduring,” according to Pastor Eyobong Ita, Chair of the alumni association.
Scheduled to bring together distinguished leaders in government, media, business, and civil society, the public presentation will highlight Vanguard’s evolution from a bold, young tabloid to a nationally trusted institution shaping public discourse and democratic engagement.
“It documents key moments, investigative milestones, editorial leadership, and the newspaper’s role in chronicling Nigeria’s political, economic, and cultural history.”
General Babangida’s attendance underscores the significance of Vanguard’s contributions to national development and the media’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic journey. His presence also reflects the longstanding relationship between the Nigerian press and the nation’s leadership, especially during pivotal periods covered extensively by Vanguard’s reportage.
The theme of the keynote address, to be delivered by the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu is “Fighting Insecurity in Nigeria: The Need for Media Collaboration.”
Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba will chair the public presentation of the book.
Also, former Editor of the Punch Newspapers, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye is expected to review the book.
