The Bhutanese Community of Central Ohio (BCCO) for the first time led this year’s Independence Day parade, joining thousands of Americans in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in Reynoldsburg Ohio, a predominantly Bhutanese American population.
The celebration marked a historic moment for the Bhutanese and Nepali American community. For the first time, the vibrant sounds of the traditional Naumati Baja filled the parade route, introducing spectators to a cherished cultural tradition while celebrating the diversity that strengthens America.
Hundreds of community members including elders, youth, children, and families marched together carrying American flags and celebrating both their cultural heritage and their shared identity as Americans.
Their participation reflected a journey of resilience, from displacement and refugee camps to becoming active citizens, professionals, business owners, taxpayers, and community leaders in the United States.
BCCO’s participation highlighted the organization’s continued commitment to promoting cultural understanding, civic engagement, and community service throughout Central Ohio. The event also served as a reminder that America’s story has been enriched by generations of immigrants and refugees who have embraced the nation’s ideals while preserving their cultural traditions.
“This was more than a parade,” said Reynoldsburg City Council president Mr. Bhuwan Pyakurel. “It was a celebration of freedom, opportunity, and the enduring spirit of a community that is proud of its heritage and proud to call America home.”
As the nation commemorates 250 years of independence, BCCO expressed its gratitude to the parade organizers, volunteers, participants, and supporters who made the celebration possible and reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive future for generations to come.
