Columbus City Council Hosts Community Iftar During Ramadan

Community members from across Central Ohio gathered at Columbus City Hall for a special Ramadan Iftar Dinner hosted by the Columbus City Council, celebrating faith, unity, and cultural connection among the city’s diverse communities.

The event began at 5:45 PM, bringing together city leaders, members of the Somali community, and residents from many cultural backgrounds to share the traditional Iftar meal, marking the daily breaking of the fast during Ramadan.

The evening opened with welcoming remarks from Nancy Day-Achauer and Shannon Hardin, who acknowledged the spiritual importance of Ramadan and recognized the contributions of Muslim residents throughout Columbus.

City leaders emphasized that events like the community Iftar provide an opportunity to build understanding and strengthen relationships between local government and the communities they serve. Councilmembers and city representatives expressed appreciation for the strong presence of the Somali community and other immigrant families who continue to enrich Columbus through entrepreneurship, culture, and civic engagement.

Columbus High School Students Job Fair Connects Community with Career Opportunities and Workforce Resources

Columbus residents seeking employment opportunities, career advancement, and workforce resources gathered today at the Columbus Metropolitan Library – Main Branch for a dynamic job fair that brought together major employers, community organizations, and public service agencies under one roof. The event created a welcoming space where job seekers could meet recruiters face-to-face, explore career pathways, and access essential support services designed to strengthen Central Ohio’s workforce.

A wide range of organizations participated, offering

opportunities across industries including energy, banking, public safety, education, and workforce development. Among the key participants were AEP Ohio, OhioMeansJobs Franklin County, KeyBank, Franklin County Commissioners Human Resources, the Columbus Division of Police, and the college-access organization I Know I Can, along with many additional vendors committed to empowering job seekers.

Representatives from AEP Ohio connected with attendees interested in careers in energy, infrastructure, and technical services, highlighting pathways into stable, long-term employment within one of the region’s leading utility providers. Nearby, KeyBank recruiters spoke with candidates about opportunities in financial services, customer relations, and community banking, emphasizing professional growth and workforce inclusion.

Workforce specialists from OhioMeansJobs Franklin County provided hands-on guidance, helping visitors navigate job listings, resume development, and training programs available throughout the region. Their presence reinforced the importance of accessible employment resources and career readiness support for individuals at every stage of their professional journey.
