Sudanese Community In Columbus Opens Sudan House

The Sudanese American Community Development Organization, Ohio has opened a community center, Sudan House, in Crown Plaza Drive, Columbus to provide vital services such as healthcare access, housing assistance, employment training, and vocational supports to members of the community.

At the grand opening of the community center on Sunday, November 3, 2024, members and friends were conducted round the new facility designed to serve as community resource center for both children and adults.

Established in 2002, the Sudanese American Community Development Organization, a non-profit organization is dedicated to making a positive impact in the community and providing support to immigrants and refugees displaced by the war in Sudan.

With a comprehensive range of programs designed to address the unique needs of members, as well as the broader community, the center will also conduct tutoring programs by providing academic support and language assistance to help individuals acquire the necessary skills for success in their new environment.

“We have programs for school age children at weekends and under school age children on weekdays that we call My Story Time,” said Soad Balla, President Sudan House.

“It is open to the Sudanese community and other members of the community,” said Mohammed Hassan, President of the Sudanese American Community Development Organization.

“Our aim is to equip individuals with the tools they need to become self-reliant and establish a stable and fulfilling life in their new home.”
