Sudanese American community celebrates Women for their resilience

By Dr. Awatif Elnour

The Sudanese American Community Development Organization of Ohio recently celebrated the International Women’s Day with presentations by women activists, youth leadership, ethnic food, and music in Columbus, Ohio.

It was a time to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful women of the world and in particular Sudanese women’s resilience, leadership, and courage in the Sudan and in the Diaspora.

Women were commended for their continued efforts to become good and productive citizens of both countries, the Sudan, and the United States.

Also acknowledged were Sudanese women who pioneered fights for gender equality and recognition, and those who lost their lives during the ongoing Sudanese revolution against the military and fundamentalist dictatorship in Sudan.
