Reynoldsburg Residents Curious on Why Did the Giant Eagle on East Broad Street Closed

By Irina Perry

For months, residents throughout Reynoldsburg have been asking what happened to the Giant Eagle located at East Broad Street and Rosehill Road. The closure has prompted questions across social media and in neighborhood conversations, especially after the recent announcement that The Kroger Co. has reached an agreement to acquire Giant Eagle in a transaction valued at approximately $1.65 billion.

According to Reynoldsburg Mayor Joe Begeny, the East Broad Street Giant Eagle closure was not caused by Kroger’s proposed acquisition of Giant Eagle. The local store had already been scheduled to close before the acquisition was announced. The proposed sale remains subject to regulatory approval and is not expected to be completed until 2027.

The closure has affected many residents who depended on the location for groceries, pharmacy services, and everyday shopping. While many community members expressed disappointment over the loss of the neighborhood grocery store, city officials have indicated that they continue working toward a positive future for the property.

Mayor Begeny has shared that the City of Reynoldsburg is engaged in discussions regarding redevelopment opportunities for the site. Although no official plans have been announced, city leaders remain focused on attracting new investment that will serve residents and strengthen the local economy.

As Reynoldsburg continues to grow, residents are hopeful that the former Giant Eagle property will become home to a new business that meets the needs of the community.
