Ohio provides $15 Million to reduce homelessness caused by Covid19

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced an additional $15 million grant to Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, COHHIO to ensure Ohioans can maintain their housing during the coronavirus pandemic period.

“In April, I announced a $1 million grant to Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio: COHHIO, to support homelessness prevention efforts and to rapidly rehouse individuals and families experiencing homelessness – who could be at a greater risk of contracting COVID19.,” said Governor Mike DeWine.

“With these resources, COHHIO was able to keep 100s of Ohioans safely housed during the COVID19 pandemic. “

On the cost of running schools in the state as a result of the pandemic, Governor DeWine said “We know that COVID19 prevention efforts and safety precautions will cause costs at schools to be more expensive than in years past. We want to help with these increasing costs.”

“We intend to make this funding available to all public and private K-12 schools and to all of our 2- and 4-year colleges and universities, both public and private, including adult career tech providers.”

According to him, “Our request to the Controlling Board is in addition to the more than $440 million in direct federal CARES Act funding that our K-12 schools are receiving. The state’s colleges and universities also received more than $190 million of direct federal funding.”

On current data, Governor DeWine said “It’s important to remember that these are lagging indicators. If the pattern we are seeing in other states continues, we can expect to see hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and deaths increase a few weeks after increases in cases.”

“On June 26 there were 619 COVID19 patients in hospitals around the state. Since then, we have increased to 905 as of today.”

“As cases are increasing across the state, we received word today that someone on my staff has tested positive for COVID19. This individual has been working from home since the start of the pandemic. We wish this person the best as they recover,” said Governor DeWine.
