Ohio celebrates Sierra Leone Independence Day at Statehouse April 26

As Sierra Leone marks 63rd Independence Day, the office of the Ohio Governor will host the raising of the national flag of Sierra at the Statehouse grounds on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 am.

To also commemorate the Independence Day “the Minister Counselor of Sierra Leone to the United States of America, Victor Abdulai Sheriff, and other dignitaries will be present at event,” said Abass Bangura, President of the Sierra Leone Community of Ohio.

“On April 27, the organization is sponsoring an evening of celebration and entertainment that will showcase some of the sounds, tastes, and cultures of Sierra Leone at the St. Matthias School Hall (1566 Ferris Road, Columbus OH 43224), starting at 10:00 p.m.”

The Republic of Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Guinea to the north-east, Liberia to the south-east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south-west.
